Lots of women feel self-conscious about their breasts.
The decision to undergo breast augmentation is very personal. For women with breast cancer, breast reconstruction and breast augmentation can make a difficult time somewhat easier.
We understand what you’re going through.
Whether your breasts sag, droop or deflate over time due to changes in weight or postpartum. Recent developments in breast fat grafting technology allow you to use your own body fat to increase your breast size by removing stubborn fat from your love handles or another part of the body and transferring it to your breasts.
Often people spend months and even years researching the best options for breast augmentation. However, a quick and thorough consultation with us will give you all the answers, and recommend the most suitable procedure for your circumstances and body type.
Complete results are evident within several months after all healing is completed.
Breast implants are not permanent. Expect to replace them at least every 10 to fifteen years. Those choosing silicone implants may need to consult with their surgeon regularly to ensure the breast implants are not leaking.
Over the years, changes in the body, such as weight gain or loss, pregnancy, and menopause, can affect the breasts’ appearance. Patients may want to undergo another procedure, such as a breast lift, or exchange their breast implants.
In breast augmentation surgery with implants, breast implants are inserted beneath the breasts to make them larger. Breast implants are made of either saline or silicone. They are available in several shapes, including round, teardrop, or anatomical. You can also receive fat transfer breast augmentation, which uses donor fat from another part of the body instead of implants.
Saline
The saline implant consists of a silicone envelope filled with sterile saline. The implant is filled with a specific amount of saline. If a saline implant leaks, the envelope collapses, and the saline is absorbed by the body.
Silicone
A silicone implant provides a more natural appearance and feel. It is a silicone envelope filled with an elastic gel. However, if a silicone implant leaks, it is possible for the gel to escape into the area surrounding the implant or into the breast tissue. That can mean pain and changes in the breast’s appearance, or it may not prove noticeable.
Fat Transfer
Fat transfer breast augmentation uses the fat from the patient’s body and transfers it to the breasts. Because there is no implant, fat transfer breast augmentation generally requires less recovery time than breast augmentation with implants. However, the size increase from fat transfer breast augmentation is generally not as large as via implants.
The entire procedure lasts between one and two hours.
Breast augmentation surgery is performed under general anesthesia. In most cases, the surgeon makes an incision to insert the implants either under the armpit, in the crease beneath the breast, or around the areola. The location is determined before the surgery. The best place for the incision depends upon the individual patient and the type and size of implant chosen.
The surgeon creates a pocket, either behind the chest muscle or in front of the muscle, below the breast tissue. The surgeon then inserts the implant into that pocket. Silicone implants are generally filled before insertion. An empty implant may be inserted and filled with saline until reaching the desired size. After insertion and any filling, the incisions are stitched closed.

There are many factors to bear in mind when selecting a cup size. Dr Rizk will assess your body to determine important long term health factors. For example, how much additional weight can your back support without causing pain and damage? What is the best breast shape and size to contour and benefit your body type?
At Rizk Plastic Surgery in Sydney breast implant size is specially chosen through custom-fitting for each patient, which Dr Rizk will guide you through during your consultation.
Plastic Surgeons generally use two main placement options. Your implants can be positioned behind the breast tissue to give more fullness, or in cases where the patient is on the smaller side and doesn’t have much natural breast tissue, the implants can be inserted below the chest muscle.
Both options have advantages and different effects. Dr. Rizk can consult with you on what will be most appropriate for your body type and desired results. He places importance on understanding your desires while striving to make sure that you are at ease and confident in his ability to achieve your aesthetic goals.
Most often, women who are good candidates for breast augmentation surgery are looking for help with issues that include the following:
As with any cosmetic surgical procedure, good candidates for breast augmentation surgery are generally physically healthy. They should not smoke and have no serious medical issues like cancer or an infection. Good overall skin elasticity and resilience are also important for a smooth recovery and the most ideal results. In addition to physical health, a good candidate is in a positive state of mind and understands surgery alone cannot cure any self-esteem or body image issues they may have. They also have realistic expectations for the procedure and fully understand the effects the surgery will have on their body.
Keep in mind that breast augmentation may affect your ability to breastfeed. Pregnant and nursing women are not candidates for breast augmentation. Smokers should quit before undergoing breast augmentation surgery.
The recovery process from breast augmentation surgery can generally be uncomfortable, depending on how long it takes you to heal. On average, full recovery takes about six weeks because every woman’s body is unique thus the recovery process will vary as well.
Day 1
Immediately following your procedure, you will be groggy from the anaesthesia, so you will need someone to take you home and care for you overnight.
Weeks 1 and 2
The first week is usually the most uncomfortable part of the recovery process, so we advise that our Sydney breast augmentation patients plan to rest for up to a week. You can expect to have significant swelling and mild to moderate tenderness in your chest, depending on the placement of the implant (above or below the muscle). Dr Rizk will prescribe appropriate medications and techniques to help with the pain and discomfort.
After one week, most women can return to non-strenuous work or activity. During this time, you may notice your breasts appear “top-heavy” and that your chest muscles feel very tight, but this is normal as your body heals and adjusts to the presence of the breast implants.
Weeks 3 to 6
In the following weeks, you will want to gently return to normal activities. While any remaining discomfort may be managed with over-the-counter medicines, you should still avoid any strenuous activity or heavy lifting. Dr Rizk will schedule follow-up appointments to assess your recovery process and talk through any questions or concerns you may have.
Months 2 to 6
As the body heals there will be noticeable subsiding of swelling and inflammation to your breasts, where you may begin to observe your breasts as they appear to “drop and fluff”. While this may be unsettling, this is a normal, natural part of the healing process. When your internal tissues begin to stretch and adjust to the implants, they will naturally settle into their proper position. They will usually move down (“drop”) and settle, filling out on the lower side (“fluff”). While it may be unsettling, this is a normal, natural part of the healing process.
So that you can choose the best implant type, size, and placement for the results that you wish to achieve, initial consultation with Dr Rizk in our Stanmore clinic is required. During this consultation, Crisalix 3D imaging is used to help you visually see the potential breast augmentation outcomes you should expect to achieve. Breast augmentation surgery carries some risks. These include infection, bleeding, scar tissue, and wrinkling of the skin over the implant.
Breast augmentation costs vary between the patient, procedure, and type of breast implants chosen. However, the cost of revisional surgery is far more expensive. Be sure to choose a surgeon with a proven track record and great results who you feel comfortable with and who shares your vision for your surgery. It can save you time, money, and additional surgery.
If the procedure is elective, insurance will not cover it. If breast augmentation is performed in relation to a mastectomy, insurance may apply.
The two are opposite procedures. The former enlarges the breasts via breast implants while the latter removes tissue to reduce the size.
Fat grafting is a procedure in which the patient has fat removed via liposuction from another part of the body and transferred to the breasts. It is a non-invasive procedure.
